Styling The Bump: Lysia

The Styling The Bump series encourages new moms-to-be to embrace their bump with styles that flatter the bump, without spending on maternity wear that they end up stashing away after pregnancy. By renting, we want to promote a more sustainable lifestyle that’s also financially sustainable! We met with a kind-hearted psychologist who is making her pregnancy journey her own, and looking her best while doing so!

Hi Lysia! Thank you for taking the time to have a chat with us! How has your pregnancy experience been so far?

It has been quite easy actually! I had very minimal nausea at the start and enjoyed a smooth-sailing second trimester. Now, I’m diving into the deep end with a lot more aches, but generally I’m doing alright. Just cruising along!

How has your daily routine changed since becoming pregnant?

I have become more disciplined in not over-committing my time to appointments and events, but learning to pace myself and take things slowly. The more erratic patterns of food cravings do throw things off a little sometimes, though!

What’s a piece of advice you got that’s really helping you with your pregnancy?

Not to listen to everyone’s advice, but to make this my own experience! There is a tendency to be afraid of the unknown and to feel overwhelmed by stories from others, but what I find most liberating is to take in what I’m feeling and derive my own meaning from it. No time to live someone else’s life!

What are you most excited about motherhood?

Experiencing the joy of giving unconditional love and getting absolutely nothing in return – no sleep, no rest, no time for anything else! I don’t think it’ll be like anything I’ve experienced before.

What are some of the challenges you face when dressing the bump?

With a growing bump, it’s hard to work with my current wardrobe as I like structured pieces like pencil skirts as well as A line dresses. Towards the end of the second trimester and early in the third trimester, I couldn’t even fit the stretchiest or loosest clothing in my wardrobe. That was a good time for me to start renting from Style Theory.

Do you rent more for work, weekend, events or travel?

More for work and the weekends! I like comfortable, relaxed yet fun styles for casual days spent with friends and family. If I’m going for date night, I’ll rent darker pieces with a slimmer silhouette that look more formal. If I happen to attend a wedding or a party, pastels and florals are my go-to because they bring cheer to the crowd on such happy occasions!

You’ve been a subscriber since August. What do you like about Style Theory?

The fast turnaround service and convenient pick-up/drop-off locations!

Anything you’d like to see more of?

Perhaps more solid colour items that are more suitable for day-to-day wear, and more classic silhouettes, because some popular ones just get snapped up so fast!

Last but not least, do you have any tips for other moms-to-be?

Being a mom-to-be can be an energy-consuming journey, but remember to not let it be your only defining identity that drowns out your other charming qualities!

Rent bump-friendly styles from the Infinite Wardrobe and spend less on clothes that you’ll only wear a few times!
