What Are Style Theory Staff Doing To Go Greener

Style Theory wouldn’t be where it is today without our wonderful team! As we’re moving towards being more environmentally friendly at a company level, our team members are also doing their part, by making small positive changes to their lifestyle. Read on to see what our staff are doing to go greener, and why sustainability is something we should all be caring about.

Ashley, Junior Content Strategist

Why is sustainability important to you?

I think sustainability is important because the earth has limited resources and we might soon run out of it. It’s important to me to lead a sustainable lifestyle for a better future for the earth. One person may seem so small but a little can go a long way.

What are the changes you’ve made to your lifestyle to be more eco-friendly?

I’ve decided to reduce usage of single-use plastic at home and try to carry my own reusable containers. Even when grocery shopping, I’ll bring my own grocery tote.

Cindee, Social Media Lead

Why is sustainability important to you?

We need to improve our living quality and save the environment for our future generations.

What are the changes you’ve made to your lifestyle to be more eco-friendly?

I bring a tote bag whenever I go grocery shopping to reduce plastic use, and repurpose glass jars as flower vases to display at home. I own many indoor plants, which help to purify the air and process out pollutants. I’ve also started making my own soy candles instead of buying paraffin candles. As for my clothes, I keep a minimalist wardrobe with timeless pieces that I can mix-and-match or repeat. I avoid buying into trends because I’ll just end up wearing them only once.

Sarah, Marketing Intern

Why is sustainability important to you?

I don’t want innocent animals to suffer due to our selfishness and greed.

What are the changes you’ve made to your lifestyle to be more eco-friendly?

I’ve been using metal utensils and bringing an extra tote bag in my bag. Every small step goes a long way!

Jainee, Styling Consultant

Why is sustainability important to you?

I always ask myself, if not now then when? I have two kids aged 10 and 4, and I would hate to leave a world filled with issues, but with no solution to it.

What are the changes you’ve made to your lifestyle to be more eco-friendly?

At home, we have reduced our usage of single-use plastic, by using glass containers to store food instead of plastic ones. I also do a shopping detox challenge once a year for 3 months to stop buying new clothes shoes accessories for myself and everyone at home.

Maria, Operation Analyst

Why is sustainability important to you?

It’s a way for me to do my part for the environment, and to ensure that in the future, people can still enjoy what we are enjoying right now. Our population is growing, but our resources are finite. I truly believe in “being less to live more”.

What are the changes you’ve made to your lifestyle to be more eco-friendly?

I’ve started to rent clothes from Style Theory instead of buying new ones for special occasions, which I only wear once or twice. I don’t want to clutter my wardrobe and promote the practice of impulse buying. I’ve also become more mindful of my water usage. I turn off the tap whenever I’m not using it, even if it’s just for a few seconds.

Rebecca, Junior Buyer

Why is sustainability important to you?

It is important to me because it is a responsibility. If we, as humans, are the cause for so much damage to the earth then we are responsible to make a change now, no matter how small.

What are the changes you’ve made to your lifestyle to be more eco-friendly?

At home, I make sure to recycle as much as possible – all papers, cardboard, plastic bottles etc. It takes a bit more effort for things like shampoo bottles as you have to rinse them out but it’s worth it. I also bring a tote to the supermarket and avoid taking plastic bags when possible. If I do have plastic bags at home, I at least try to reuse them. I avoid using plastic cutlery and straws as much as possible by bringing my own metal straw and reusable cutlery. Since March, I also decided to cut out meat from my diet as I have recently learned the harsh effects of the meat industry on the environment. I still do eat some fish but I try to contribute in any way I can.

Jayme, Head of Bags

Why is sustainability important to you?

It is important because I am convinced that the environment is in an extremely critical condition and in a not too far away future, there would be nothing that we can do to change our course.

What are the changes you’ve made to your lifestyle to be more eco-friendly?

At home, we use recyclable bags when we can, and refuse as much packaging as possible. I also think twice about purchasing anything and make more conscious decisions not to buy something because of its environmental footprint.
