Tried and Trusted: Janice Reviews the Style Theory Bags Subscription

Welcome to Tried and Trusted, a new series where our community shares their honest reviews and experience with our designer bags rental subscription plans.

In this instalment, Janice shares about her journey with Style Theory:

Name: Janice, @sodapopp
Age: 31
Occupation: Finance Professional
Subscribed since: July 2019
Owns: At least 10 designer bags!
Rented: 3 designer bags with Style Theory Bags

You’re a huge lover of designer bags, having owned at least 10 of them. What is your current habit when it comes to shopping for designer bags?

It’s a mix of finding a bag which suits my personal style and also keeps its value. I’d prefer buying my bag from Europe or US where it is slightly cheaper as compared to local boutiques, however I also purchase from online stores. I prefer to purchase a designer bag first-hand, because there’s a sense of satisfaction when you receive a brand new bag!

How do you maintain the bags you purchase?

I usually do away with boxes and store them in their dust bags. Occasionally, I’ll take the bags out on rotation, or to sun them in order to get rid of any excess moisture. It can be tiresome after awhile, because being in Singapore means that leather bags get mouldy pretty easily and special attention is required to maintain the bags’ condition.

Why would you consider a renting subscription?

There are a few reasons why, actually!

  1. Very often, we are attracted to new styles and trends, and we’re tempted to purchase bags on impulse – that’s what happened to me in the past! I ended up not using them after a while I started collecting so many other bags over the years and I don’t have space to store my bags anymore.
  2. Singapore’s weather is so not bag-friendly! My leather bags get mouldy easily, and it’s deterred me from buying more leather designer bags.
  3. It gives me one less thing to worry about since the maintenance of the bags are taken care of by professionals!

What’s next on your Style Theory Bags wishlist?

On my list are Chanel Classic Flap, Dior Saddle and the Louis Vuitton Epi leather styles.

I would totally use these bags on a daily basis to maximise my subscription! I love a bag that fits more than it looks, and is stylish for work. Honestly, I’ve not been able to successfully rent these bag designs from Style Theory to-date as they are really popular, but I’m looking forward to when I can!

You’re quite a seasoned user of our app. What are your favourite app features that you use most?

New arrivals and community reviews! I also love that I can wishlist bags I’d want to rent and keep them in view until they become available.

With such a novel concept of renting designer bags, it’s common that some of our first-time subscribers are nervous or worried about starting their renting journey. Did you have any such fears?

When I first started out, I was apprehensive about being able to rent the bags that I liked. The popular bag designs are always in high demand, so you have to act fast and rent them soon after they’re listed as available. Another suggestion is to head down to the flagship store at 313@Somerset, where you can see, touch, and rent on the spot.

I was also worried about getting penalised for accidentally damaging the bag! I do take extra care when using a rented bag, but sometimes slight wear and tear is unavoidable. I do know that they offer Style Theory Care to protect you against paying excessive sums in the event of damages!

We love having you on this renting journey with us. Would you continue renting with Style Theory in the long run?

I would, as it’s a lot more affordable than investing a large sum of money into one bag, and then having to commit to a high-maintenance “relationship” caring for it!
