When it comes to renting luxury bags, if you’re not part of the logo-mania or not a fan of all-over monogrammed styles, you must be on Team Minimalist with Celine, Prada, Saint Laurent, and other embellishment-less designer bag styles. What is great about the subtle minimalist brands is the timelessness of the designs to withstand trends that come and go and the classic factor it lends to any outfit–be it for work or weekends.
When it comes to minimalist and hot styles, no one does ‘it bags’ better than Phoebe Philo at Celine in 2008. Check out Instagram account @oldceline for designs and her best works as an homage to her decade at the French fashion house. Her update to the Celine archives and creative injections into the brand has made Celine a brand every working woman and fashion personality want in their closet.
One thing to note about Celine bags – Their bags are available in the following sizes, from smallest to largest:
For a sturdy everyday bag: Celine Luggage Tote & Phantom Tote
Don’t be confused with the roominess of this structured bag; The Celine Luggage Tote will fit your essentials and can be worn cross-body or as a shoulder bag.
For those who love XL bags, consider renting the Celine Phantom Luggage Tote rather than the Luggage Tote. While the middle part of the phantom and the luggage is similar, the Phantom and its ‘wings’ make it more spacious and the side and it comes with a wider base than the luggage tote. Talk about carrying your life around!

For a luxe minimalistic bag: Celine Belt Bag
Neutrals are great all year round, and especially for those who love the head-to-toe monochrome style or muted bag styles to complement bolder apparel prints. What the Belt Bag lacks in visible hardware, it makes up with details. From the luxe knot front and sleek silhouette, the Belt Bag is one of the understated minimalist bags to rent from Style Theory Bags.

For a sleek power bag: Celine Trapeze
If there’s a Celine bag that can make an entrance, it’s the Trapeze. The top handle is a great power bag for the go-getter and comes in many colourways to suit any wardrobe style.
While this was a successful follow up to the Celine Luggage Tote, you’ll see many Trapeze styles discontinued. The upside is you can rent this or other Trapeze colourways from Style Theory Bags without the hassle of finding a Trapeze online or in-stores.

For a casual off-duty bag: Celine Cabas Tote
If there was ever a time Celine styles were electrifying, this was it. The Vertical Cabas Tote is great for the outdoor occasions or travel. With non-neutral colours, it goes great with black and whites, and especially better with those who experiment with colour. It holds its shape, carries your essentials and more, and looks very trend-forward. That’s a win-win-win in our books!
Authentication Matters: Celine Bags
Because of regular design updates and changing serial number tabs, Celine bags are notoriously difficult to authenticate. A key detail to look for when inspecting an authentic Celine bag is the date code.

The date code formats are similar to Louis Vuitton brand’s. Made up of an alphanumeric code, the first letter denotes the season, the next two letters denote the workshop where it was made, and the following four numbers denote when it was made. Say, if you see 0194, take the first and third number to equal the month (in this instance: 09/September), and second and fourth number to equal the year (in this instance: 14, Phoebe Philo era).
While you may see variations from style to style, you’ll find that it’s consistent among the same style:
- Trapeze: in the pocket on the back side
- Luggage Tote: interior pocket
- Trio: the interior leather edge of one of the pouches, back by the zipper base
Since 4 September 2018, the brand stamp has been changed to CELINE instead of CÉLINE as part of Hedi Slimane’s updated logo for the fashion house. Some of Philo’s designs may be showing the new brand stamp if they were produced after the change.
The brand stamp should be done in foil that matches the colour of the hardware, or debossed with foil, i.e. a blind stamp.
