With social distancing as a necessary precaution these days, bringing your exercises home and getting your entertainment indoors seems to be the best (and socially responsible!) way to go.
To help fill your #StayHome weekend plans, 10 of our staff members dished out their recommendations on binge-worthy Netflix series based on personalities! Read on to find your next Netflix binge:
1. For the Comedy Connoisseur
If you’re a comedy lover like our Content Strategist, Aisya, you love shows that are lighthearted and easy to watch. You’ve probably watched Brooklyn 99 and Friends (more than twice), so here’s her recommendation:
Being surrounded by manuals, videos and tediously open conversations about sex, Otis has become a reluctant expert on the subject. Otis decides to use his insider knowledge to improve his status at school. So he teams with whip-smart bad girl Maeve to set up an underground sex therapy clinic to deal with their classmates’ problems.
Get ready for laughs, and even wholesome, heartfelt moments with this show. We guarantee that once you get started on this series, you won’t want to stop.
2. For the Horror Buff
On the opposite end of the spectrum lie, Horror Buffs like Abhi, our Customer Relations Management Executive. They’re the people who won’t bat an eyelash while walking back to their room in pitch darkness. If you’re in love with horror films, you’ll love her recommendation:
Siblings who, as children, grew up in what would go on to become the most famous haunted house in the country. Now adults, they are forced back together in the face of tragedy and must finally confront the ghosts of their past.
Word of caution: Watch it during the day if you’re not brave enough. Trust us.
3. For the Psycho Thriller Maniac
If you’re like Peiszan, our Content Strategist, you prefer a good psychological mind game over the jump-scares from horror movies. If you loved psychological thriller series like YOU, try watching Peiszan’s recommendation:
The latest seasons don’t disappoint: Every episode has its quirks! Some wholesome but some extremely disturbing. It’s a rollercoaster ride of emotions watching this!
Personal episode favourites:
Bandersnatch
The Entire History of You (S1E3)
Nosedive (S3E1)
Black Museum (S4E6)
4. For the Zombie and Sci-Fi Nut
Regardless of your Netflix personality or preference, nothing will pull you to the edge of your seat like a classic zombie apocalyptic show! We recommend:
The deceased king rises and a mysterious plague begins to spread. The prince must face a new breed of enemies to unveil the evil scheme and save his people.
This exhilarating Korean period drama is at its second season already, and we guarantee you won’t be bored — not even for a minute.
5. For the K-drama Addict
If you’re in need of a K-drama fix, ask Cassandra, our Brand Communications & PR Manager. She’ll recommend you enough to last for months. But for a start, here’s one she highly recommends you start watching:
In a colourful Seoul neighborhood, an ex-con and his friends fight a mighty foe to make their ambitious dreams for their street bar reality, come true.
6. For the Hopeless Romantic
If you’re a hopeless romantic, through and through, like our Junior Producer, Danial, you’ve probably scoured Netflix for all the romcoms. If you want the same butterflies in your stomach, but with a dark twist, here’s one for you:
Chilling Adventures of Sabrina
Magic and mischief collide as half-human, half-witch Sabrina navigates between two worlds: mortal teen life and her family’s legacy, the Church of Night.
Yes, it is about witches and dark magic, but its sweet romantic undertones will have you rooting for everyone’s favourite teenage witch.
7. For the Reality Lover
There is just something about a reality TV series that gets your attention. Joy, our Project Manager, indulges in variety shows and documentaries. If you love the idea of watching people’s lives unravel in a reality show, she recommends:
A group of young people, strangers, gather in Karuizawa woods while pursuing their dream.
It may not seem like it, but this is totally a binge-worthy Netflix series to try for this weekend!
8. Criminal Investigator
If you’re intrigued about the minds of the world’s greatest criminals like our Digital Marketing Manager, Qinny, you’d love her watchlist of crime series and movies. But nothing can prepare you for the whirlwind of emotions you’ll get from her recommended crime documentary:
The Trials of Gabriel Fernandez
A boy’s brutal murder and public trials of his guardians and social workers prompt questions about the system’s protection of vulnerable children.
9. For the Animation Geek
Ashley, Content Strategist, absolutely love animated series or films. It’s fun, and most of the time, light-hearted. But the best part is the adult humour or emotions reflected in these animated series!
You might be familiar with the popular Rick and Morty, but I recommend:
The Crystal Gems are a team of magical beings who are the self-appointed guardians of the universe. Steven is the “little brother” of the group learning to save the world using the magical powers.
Don’t underestimate this show, it can be somewhat quirky or childlike at times, but it deals with certain issues you can resonate with and relate to.
10. For the Chill Pill
Siew May, our Social Media Executive, has a super chill personality which reflects in the shows she enjoys. If you’re laid back like her, she recommends you start your weekends with:
Three modern-day families from California try to deal with their kids, quirky spouses and jobs in their own unique ways, often falling into hilarious situations.
This Emmy Award-winning series is easy to watch, wholesome, and just hilarious. I’m guilty of re-watching this series countless times, and I’m sure you’ll love it too.
